The Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami, School of Medicine is a multidisciplinary and comprehensive department that offers educational, research and dermatologic service programs.  A capsule summary in these introductory pages includes, but is not limited to: education, research, treatment and prevention of problems of the skin, hair, mucous membranes and nails.

Skin problems range from cosmetic (i.e. undesired tattoos, leg veins, facial wrinkles and acne scars) to severe and life-threatening conditions such as skin cancers, chronic ulcers and vasculitis.  The wide range of therapeutic methods used is also wide, including microscopically-controlled cancer surgery (Mohs), laser therapy, phototherapy, cryotherapy (freezing), tissue therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and cosmetic therapies such as botulinum toxin injections (Botox®), peels and collagen injections.

Educational opportunities are offered to medical students, recent foreign medical graduates, fellows, residents, post-graduates, nurses and pharmaceutical representatives and scientists.  Research includes clinical, pre-clinical and basic science.
