The Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery currently has a number of post graduate courses for physicians including an annual board review course both for physicians preparing for the American Board of Dermatology examination as well as those physicians wishing an update in the most current dermatology information.  The department also co-sponsors the largest international annual wound-healing symposium.  The Symposium of Advance Wound Care/Medical Research Forum is in its 14th year and provides a venue for physicians to learn about the most up-to-date information on wound healing. 

The department spearheads the renowned annual Masters of Pediatric Dermatology meeting held in conjunction with the Masters of Pediatrics. Dr. Schachner is the program director for the annual Masters of Pediatrics Dermatology course now in its 10th year. It is a three and a half day course, and features plenary sessions, symposiums, and hands-on workshops. It is accredited by the American Academy of Dermatology for a maximum of thirty-seven and one-half CME credits for the year 2002.

WOUND HEALING SCHOOL AND OTHER COURSES

The department also sponsors a multi-disciplinary Wound Healing School.  This course involves both clinical and didactic information regarding the care of patients with chronic wounds. The department also is able to offer specific courses in wound healing, psoriasis, acne, viral diseases, and skin cancer among others, aimed at specific audiences such as nurses, therapists, scientists, industry, and pharmaceutical representatives. GRADUATE EDUCATION SPECIALTY TRAINING PROGRAM

The Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery offers a Graduate Education Specialty Training (G.E.S.T.) Fellowship Program.  This program is tailored for foreign dermatologists, preferably for those who have been recently trained. This program enables the fellow to rotate through every facet of the department and is divided into one-month blocks for a total of three months.  This program received the award of excellence in education by the American Academy of Dermatology in 1999.
