Lipomoist, A New Skin Moisturizer

by S. L. Hsia, Ph. D. and Jin Lin He B.S.

Lipomoist® is a new skin moisturizer developed by the Lipid Research Laboratory in the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, University of Miami School of Medicine. It gives a soothing sensation, and readily penetrates into the tough protein that constitutes the outermost layer of skin. It delivers moisture under the surface, and keeps it there. Lipomoist® contains no harsh chemicals and does not leave an oily film. It softens the skin and gives it a more youthful appearance. Data from laboratory and clinical tests show Lipomoist® to have superior qualities to other moisturizers. Users of Lipomoist® are extremely pleased with the results produced in their skin.

Laboratory Data

Moisture retaining capacity: The time course of water loss from moisturizers is tested under controlled laboratory conditions. The results from Lipomoist® and seven leading brands of moisturizers are compared in Figs. 1 and 2. It is seen that Lipomoist® has greater moisture retention capacity than all the seven brands.

Clinical Data

Reducing Roughness of Skin

In a test performed by Prof. Ron Marks' laboratory at University of Wales College of Medicine, to measure the roughness of the skin, by a technique known as replica surfometry, Lipomoist® and two standard ointments were applied to the inner aspect of forearm skin of 8 volunteers. Fig. 3 indicates that Lipomoist® reduces skin roughness by 20% one hour after application, and is significantly more effective than the standard ointments.

Delivery and Retention of Moisture

The effectiveness of Lipomoist® in delivering and retaining skin moisture was compared with that of brands 2, 3 and 8. The moisturizers were applied to the forearm skin of 15 volunteers of both sexes, and evaluated with NOVA DPM 9003, an instrument that measures moisture content of skin by electric conductance. The results summarized in Fig. 4 show that Lipomoist® delivers more moisture and helps to keep the moisture for hours longer than the other three moisturizers.
