Physician Attire Found by Miller Researcher to Influence Patient Perception

Robert S. Kirsner, M.D., Ph.D., professor and Chair of Dermatology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and collaborators illustrated through a cross-sectional survey of 261 subjects that by a large margin patients prefer their doctors to be in professional apparel. The study focused on dermatologists’ clothing and how patients develop an opinion about their physician’s qualification based on first encounters.

Wound Healing Society Honors UM Dermatology Researchers and Clinicians

Dr. Robert S. Kirsner Elected to AAD Board of Directors

Robert S. Kirsner, M.D., Ph.D., Harvey Blank Professor and Chairman of the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Academy of Dermatology Association. He will serve a four-year term that will begin at the conclusion of the Academy’s 75th Annual Meeting in March 2017.

Miller School Student Wins First Prize in National Medical Essay Competition

Fleta Netter Bray, a fourth-year student at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, has won first prize in a national medical essay competition held annually by the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. The Melbourne Beach, Fla., native won top honors and a $2,000 cash award in the Helen H. Glaser Student Essay Contest, and is the first Miller School student ever to win a prize in the competition.

Miller School of Medicine Achieves Significant Gains in NIH Research Grant Rankings

Robert S. Kirsner, M.D., Ph.D., has been named Chair of the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery. Kirsner, who holds the Harvey Blank Professorship, has been Interim Chair since his predecessor, Lawrence A. Schachner, M.D., stepped down in December 2014.

Celebration Marks Six Decades of Dermatology Care

Sixty years of medical accomplishments and memories were celebrated recently as one of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s oldest departments marked a milestone. More than 250 people gathered at the Shelburne Wyndham Grand South Beach January 14-17 for the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery 60th Anniversary Educational Program and Celebration.
